To avoid damaging the prosthesis, it should never be inserted or removed over a sink, tiles or hard floors, but over soft surfaces such as towels.
Before inserting the prosthesis you should clean it thoroughly and moisten it so that it is easier to insert.
To insert the prosthesis, first of all push it under the lifted upper lid (the short part generally points towards the nose) and hold it in this position. Pull the lower lid slightly downwards for the artificial eye to slide into its definite position. If necessary, correct the position of your prosthesis by pushing the eye softly with your finger in order to let out any air that may have unintentionally gone in with the eye.
Eye prosthesises must also be removed over a soft surface. To do this, people generally look upwards. Press the lower lid from underneath towards behind the prosthesis until the lower edge of the prosthesis is loose. Push the tip of your index finger under the mentioned edge and take hold of the artificial eye with your middle finger to take it out of the eye socket downwards. If necessary, the prosthesis can also be removed with the thumb and the index finger. In special cases, a small hook or a suction device may be necessary. Your ocularist will be pleased to advise you.
Please note: If you rub or wipe your eye, always do it towards your nose, as you could otherwise turn the prosthesis or push it out.
