Handling/Care

Durability, handling and care of your eye prosthesis:

Approximately 2 months after receiving your first prosthesis (about 2-6 weeks after the operation) a new eye prosthesis will be fit in, as the eye socket often changes its shape during the healing process. After that you can wear your prosthesis for approximately 1 year thanks to the material’s durability. Apart from the natural wear caused by lacrimal fluid, other influences such as dust at your place of work, pollution and individual factors (composition of the eye socket, secretion intensity, poor eyelid closure) may reduce the durability of your prosthesis. Children and youths need a replacement more frequently as well, as they are still growing. You should your prosthesis controlled by your eye specialist regularly.

Eye prosthesises made of glass are inconspicuous, fit in without difficulty and give the patient self-confidence. As well as a perfect fabrication faithful to nature, appropriate care and handling are extremely important, and very easy if you observe the following indications. In case of doubt, contact your specialized ocularist. He will be pleased to help you.
