Properties of the eye prosthesis

Your eye prosthesis is a unique product which has been individually manufactured and adapted to your eye socket. The material I use in most cases, apart from bone and crystal glass, is the so-called cryolite glass; a high-quality special glass used in Germany for the manufacturing of glass eyes since approximately 1868. In the field of eye prosthesis, cryolite glass has always proven to be extremely advantageous because it contains no lead whatsoever. The surface of this glass is very resistant against the highly corrosive lacrimal fluid and is hence perfectly compatible with the mucosa.

Glass eyes are manufactured either hollow or as a very thin shell prosthesis. Your ocularist will determine the most appropriate prosthesis type depending on the composition of your eye socket. Thanks to the great wearing properties of glass eye prosthesis you will enjoy an optimum ease of movement at work, in your free time and when practicing sport. Even swimming is not a problem. However, you should wear goggles as a precaution in case the water is contaminated.
