What material is the artificial eye made of?
We basically distinguish between artificial eyes made of glass and those made of plastic. In my institute we use a high-quality and most important body-compatible glass.
Prosthesis made of plastic have considerable disadvantages in comparison to the glass material. They are only used in exceptional cases. Please ask me about this.

How long does an artificial eye last?
Glass eyes last approx. 1 year due to their resistant surface. However, environmental influences, dust, dirt and functional failures of the eyelid can reduce the durability. In children, the durability is also shorter, as they are still growing.

Can the artificial eye break?
Yes. That is why you need to be careful when handling it (see care instructions). In the eye socket, the artificial eye is well protected by the facial bones and can not be damaged.
